What to Expect

Nutrition counseling is based on a non-diet approach that supports the physical, emotional, and spiritual health of our clients. We approach each client individually to identify specific beliefs and feelings about food and eating that may be contributing to an unhealthy relationship with food.

Counseling is focused on behavior rather than on food alone. We will help you to tune into physical hunger and to identify emotional triggers that may be interfering with normal eating*. We work collaboratively as a team with other health care providers, including doctors, therapists and psychiatrists.

It is our goal to ensure optimal outcomes for our clients. We believe there is a strong mind-body connection to health and encourage clients to take advantage of resources such as: The Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine; The University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness; The Cambridge Insight Meditation Center; Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health and many other similar resources outside of the Commonwealth.

What is Healthy Eating?
  • Eating throughout the day to nourish the mind and body.
  • Eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full.
  • Enjoying a variety of foods that contain a balance of different nutrients and taste good.
  • Eating that promotes well-being, clear thinking and mood stability.
  • Eating enough energy and nutrients to maintain a healthy body weight range.
  • Eating on a daily basis and maintaining a regular eating routine that does not change dramatically with or without physical activity.
  • Planning for snacks and meals on-the-go when sitting down at a table for a meal is not possible.
  • Sometimes influenced by emotions, social situations or the time of day.

Healthy Eating is NOT…rigid or focused on specific nutrients or types of food, and does not consume more than 50% of daily thoughts. Normal eating does not interfere with social interaction or concentration.
